If I had a dollar for every business owner not paying themself superannuation, Iā€™d be a rich woman indeed. There are lots of reasons why business owners choose not to pay themselves super and believe me Iā€™ve heard them all.
But hereā€™s the thing, if youā€™re under 60 and a business owner in 2023 and youā€™re not paying yourself super, then come retirement, you need to hope that you can sell your business for a pretty penny, you win lotto or come into money, or the government suddenly decides to pay a decent amount for the pension. And honestly, chances of it being the latter are slim.
Bottom line, if you want to retire on a modest income and be ok, then you need to be paying super. In this episode, Iā€™m diving into superannuation in Australia and sharing the basics.
